Class FAQ, Registration & Attendance Polices

Sewing and Fitting Mentor Studio can accommodate up to 10 sewists yet most classes run 4-8 students with 6 being an average class size. A minimum of 3 registered students is required for a class to be held. Sewing and Fitting Mentor reserves the right to cancel class if the student minimum isn’t met. Should this be the case, you will be notified and receive a full refund.

  • Should the class dates or times not work for you or you prefer not to learn in a group setting; you can schedule appointments that work with your schedule and learning style. Please call or email to arrange what works for you. 1:1 private tutoring appointments scheduled at a 2 hour minimum and rate of $34/hr.

My current class offerings are designed to build sewing skills for the new sewist (starting ages 8 and up) as they progress through each class. Yet, anyone can taking any class as long as their sewing skills meet the minimum level required.

Are you looking to schedule for a group? I.e. scouts, 4-H, homeschool group call or email to discuss what projects, fees and dates that would work for your group and the requirements needed to reach their award.

Although the schedule is flexible, the classes are not designed to be “drop-in.”  It is necessary to reserve your place in any sessions you wish to attend. (One session per week over a 6-week period is the usual, but certainly not required.)  You’re free to cancel and reschedule as needed  —  but please be sure to do so within 24 hours in order to avoid losing credit for your class.   If you have had to interrupt your regular attendance for more than 3 weeks, it’s advisable to get in touch with your instructor on the best time in the schedule to resume your classes. Don’t forget that your class sessions will expire after 6 months from your first class!

A student is only considered registered once full payment has been received and processed.

Payment for all courses are due at the time of registration in order to confirm your reserved space.

Fees include the times of class, tutoring times, workshops, make & take nights. Supplies are included with some classes and is non-refundable with the exception of insufficient class enrollment cancellation. Should that be the case, a full refund will be given to the student or with the exception of the Sewing and Pattern Fundamentals  & Beyond the Fundamentals courses explained below.

We make every attempt to make our classes work out for our students, but if you should determine that the Intro to Sewing, Sewing and Patterns Fundamentals or Beyond the Fundamentals sewing class does not meet your expectations, a refund for the unused classes can be requested within 48 hours after the second class. In order to have properly determined that the classes are inadequate, you must have attended both classes within a 14-day period. An additional $25 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund amount. No refunds or credits will be issued for any unused sessions after the six month expiration of your class sessions. Please be sure of your schedule before signing up  —  and stay in touch with us about your schedule, so we can work with you! It’s very important to us that you succeed in your sewing adventures!!

The scheduling is set up for maximum flexibility and convenience so that students may attend any six classes at any of the scheduled class times, depending on availability of space in each session.  However, our “use-it-or-lose-it” policy requires that the six classes be used within 6 months of the first session attended (see above).

Make-up classes are not necessary with our reservation system.  But don’t be a No Show!! If you can’t get to class, be sure to cancel 24 hours ahead. There’s no advance limit for reserving your class.  Please be aware that late cancellation (less than 24 hours prior to class) or just plain not showing up will result in the loss of credit for your class.

For various reasons, including limited space and consideration of other students in class, visitors who are not registered participants are not allowed to be present during class sessions.  Our open and flexible scheduling and our liberal cancellation policies are designed so that students may schedule their classes when they are free of other obligations to friends, family members, house guests or child care.  An understanding of our desire to provide a quality classroom experience for everyone is appreciated.

Students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies, patterns, fabrics and other materials necessary for their sewing projects. Students must work with a purchased pattern or kit. Due to copyright infringement laws Sewing and Fitting Mentor is not able to duplicate patterns from books nor allow students to share commercial patterns. The instructor is always available for consultation on appropriate projects and supplies.

Schedule

These classes are a single-session class that must be attended on the date scheduled & registered for.

Refunds

There will be no refunds or make-ups for any missed dates of this class; nor will the value of missed classes be transferred to another classes.  A refund will be issued for a cancellation given 48 hours in advance of the class time.
