Who Am I?
Hi, I’m Renee, your friendly sewing guru! I’ve been sewing since I was 9 and turned my passion into a profession after graduating with a degree in pattern design & dressmaking. With years of honing my skills and a love for sharing knowledge, I’m here to help you master new techniques and enjoy your sewing journey. Whether you’re starting out or looking to enhance your skills, I’m excited to support and inspire you every stitch of the way!
What’s My Teaching Process?
Let’s keep it simple: hands-on, personalized, self-paced and loads of fun! My teaching style is all about getting you involved, whether you’re a total newbie or a seasoned pro. We’ll dive into projects together, tackle challenges head-on, and celebrate every stitch along the way. No pressure, no judgment, just pure sewing joy!
What Teaching Materials and Curriculum Do I Use?
As a passionate sewing instructor, I’m thrilled to share I use the Kids Can Sew Curriculum, a comprehensive and inspiring program complete with workbooks and patterns. For kids it takes approximately 9 months to complete each level (there a 3).
The Teen/Adult workbook takes 6-9 months to complete.
This exceptional curriculum is crafted to embrace learners of all ages at the beginning of their sewing journey, empowering them to progress at their own pace. It’s meticulously organized to ensure a seamless development of skills, making the learning journey both straightforward and cost-effective. This approach allows me to offer sewing lessons in a fun and efficient manner,
For the more experience sewist, the class is based on the students choice of project. Followed with support in selecting the correct pattern, size and fabric for their project. After we explore the range of projects and fabric, we then move on to learning various techniques with plenty of room for you to unleash your creativity. And hey, if there’s something specific you’re dying to learn, just let me know—I’m here to make it happen!
How Long Have I Been Doing This and How Did I Start?
Since opening Sewing and Fitting Mentor in February 2019, it’s been an amazing ride! It all started when I discovered my love for teaching sewing through Chisago Lakes Community Ed. I realized how much joy it brings me to help others grow in their sewing journey. That spark led me to create a place where anyone, no matter their skill level, can come to learn, laugh, and stitch together. It’s been a journey filled with fun, fabric, and fantastic people.
Where Am I/The Studio Located?
You can find us nestled in the heart of Forest Lake], where creativity knows no bounds! The studio is nestled along the shore of Forest Lake, an oasis, filled with sunshine, laughter, and plenty of sewing magic. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, you’re always welcome to swing by and say hello. Trust me, you’ll feel right at home!
What Does Sewing Mean to Me as a Sewing Instructor?
For me, sewing is like stepping into a magical world or picking your own adventure, but with fabric, needle and thread instead of pages. It’s so much more than just putting pieces of fabric together; it’s about igniting your creativity, feeling unstoppable, and really connecting with the awesome process of bringing your own unique ideas to life, one stitch at a time. Being a sewing instructor? It’s way more than just a job to me. It’s an absolute blast and a privilege to be part of your creative journey, helping you uncover all the amazing things you can do with sewing and getting you to fall in love with it just like I have. My goal is simple and comes straight from the heart: to inspire you, boost your confidence, and help you discover the sewing genius I know is inside you.
