Sewing lessons are perfect for an after-school or Saturday afternoon (for those students who can’t make it during the week) to learn a new skill! The classes are short, self-paced weekly sewing sessions, for introducing a unique talent and then practice in a fun, creative way. Students may begin their courses at any time and will share the classroom with students of various skill levels and ages.
New students begin with three easy “starter projects” designed to teach sewing machine operation and safety. After completing these projects, Students are encouraged to choose their own projects and work at their own speed and comfort level. As students gain both experience and confidence, they will be free to select more complex projects, appropriate to their age and skill level, to develop and accumulate additional sewing skills.
In the course of a typical school year consisting of weekly classes, students of all ages can expect to learn the following skills:
- Safely and independently thread and operate a sewing machine
- Learn to sew standard seam allowances accurately
- Use simple patterns
- Practice correct fabric layout
- Pin, cut and mark pattern pieces for constructing a sewing project
- Learn the most common sewing techniques to assemble easy projects
- Develop an appreciation for the work process involved with a creative project
- Build skill while learning to use their tools and materials safely
$120 per 6-week session for the class fee, which is due at the beginning of each session. Supplies are extra and are purchased separately.
