Intro to the Sewing Machine – Your First Step in Sewing!
Ready to start sewing but not sure where to begin? Our Intro to the Sewing Machine class for kids, teens & adults is the perfect way to kick off your sewing journey! Whether you’re brand new to sewing or need a refresher, this fun and supportive class will give you the confidence to use a sewing machine with ease.
What You’ll Learn:
- Threading & Bobbin Winding – Master the basics of threading your machine and winding a bobbin like a pro.
- Stitch Settings & Adjustments – Learn how to choose stitches, adjust length and width, and troubleshoot common issues.
- Selecting the Right Needle & Thread for your Fabric – to achieve smooth, beautiful stitches & seams
- Essential Sewing Techniques – Get tips for smooth, even stitching, preventing thread tangles, and keeping your stitches neat.
- Sewing Machine Safety & Maintenance – Understand best practices for safe operation and keeping your machine in great condition.
- Hands-On Practice – Reinforce your skills with a simple, guided sewing exercise.
Who Should Take This Class?
This class is a required prerequisite for our Kids/Teen After-School & Saturday Morning Classes, Kid’s Summer Sewing Camps (special dates & times during the summer months) and Adult/Teen Beginning Sewing course. If you’re brand new to sewing, this class will set you up for success. If it’s been a while since you’ve used a sewing machine, it’s the perfect way to refresh your skills and build confidence before tackling new projects.
What to Bring:
- Bring your own sewing machine if you have one, or use one of ours! If bringing your own, make sure it’s in working order and includes the power cord and foot pedal.
- All other materials and practice fabric will be provided.
When & Where:
Currently, once a month at Sewing and Fitting Mentor Studio, 99 Lake St N, Forest Lake, MN
- Kids/Teen Class: 4:30-6:00 PM, one Thursday afternoon per month
- Kids/Teen Classes Summer 2025: To be Announced
- Adult/Teen Class: 6:30-9:30 PM, one Thursday evening per month
