Fall inspirations for a Seamstress

Test September is my favorite month and fall my favorite season of the year.

The leaves are changing their wardrobe into a wild array of colors, the days are getting shorter, and the evening temperatures are getting cooler which means cozy sweaters, flannel shirts, hoodies, and boots! I love wearing my collection of boots! It is Minnesota after all!

Then….there are apple orchards, bonfires, hayrides, road trips to catch the changing colors of the season along the NorthShore of Lake Superior with hot chocolate, hot cider, and everything that is pumpkin-spiced! Mmmmhmmmm…..YUM!

oops! I got a little off track there.

September also means the kids are headed back to school here in Minnesota. Yesterday, I saw all the first day back to school pictures on Facebook and Instagram, recalling how exciting it was to finally get to wear all my new clothes and finally choosing that first outfit to wear on the first day of school!

Now, as an adult, we may not have the first day of school to get excited about new clothes or a new wardrobe for the year. Yet, we as seamstresses and dressmakers can create the same excitement for ourselves through sewing.

Psst… Did you also know that September is National Sewing Month!

Pattern companies release their catalogs to herald the change of the seasons (Fall/Winter & Spring/Summer) with enough advance notice for us to select patterns that speak to our unique fashion sense and flatter our body types.

Then, the fabric companies coordinate the release of fabrics to match the upcoming clothing season which allows us to choose fabric and colors that flatter our skin tone, ultimately allowing us to create and curate a wardrobe uniquely our own. When you do that, each day can feel like you’re getting dressed for the first day of school.

What are you making this season that excites you?
